Dance music classification: A tempo-based approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent research has studied the relevance of various features for automatic genre classification, showing the particular importance of tempo in dance music classification. We complement this work by considering a domainspecific learning methodology, where the computed tempo is used to select an expert classifier which has been specialised on its own tempo range. This enables the all-class learning task to be reduced to a set of twoand three-class learning tasks. Current results are around 70% classification accuracy (8 ballroom dance music classes, 698 instances, baseline 15.9%).

Classification of dance music by periodicity patterns
This paper addresses the genre classification problem for a specific subset of music, standard and Latin ballroom dance music, using a classification method based only on timing information. We compare two methods of extracting periodicities from audio recordings in order to find the metrical hierarchy and timing patterns by which the style of the music can be recognised: the first method perfo...
متن کاملBeat Synchronous Dance Animation Based on Visual Analysis of Human Motion and Audio Analysis of Music Tempo
We present a framework that generates beat synchronous dance animation based on the analysis of both visual and audio data. First, the articulated motion of a dancer is captured based on markerless visual observations obtained by a multicamera system. We propose and employ a new method for the temporal segmentation of such motion data into the periods of dance. Next, we use a beat tracking algo...
متن کاملAutomatic Tempo-based Classification of Argentine Tango Music
Tempo-based classification is a popular technique to classify music, with applications in media-art projects, systematic study of music etc. The success of this technique using dance music genres has typically been found to be over 70%, yet it was mostly evaluated using standardized music genres, such as ballroom music. Argentine tango is a music genre, originating in Buenos Aires at the end of...
متن کاملTango or Waltz?: Putting Ballroom Dance Style into Tempo Detection
Rhythmic information plays an important role in Music Information Retrieval. Example applications include automatically annotating large databases by genre, meter, ballroom dance style or tempo, fully automated D.J.-ing, and audio segmentation for further retrieval tasks such as automatic chord labeling. In this article, we therefore provide an introductory overview over basic and current princ...
متن کاملMusic meter and tempo tracking from raw polyphonic audio
This paper presents a method for the extraction of music meter and tempo from raw polyphonic audio recordings, assuming that music meter remains constant throughout the recoding. Although this assumption can be restrictive for certain musical genres, it is acceptable for a large corpus of folklore eastern music styles, including Greek traditional dance music. Our approach is based on the selfsi...
